Nashville likes history. The brick warehouses and stone office buildings declare, "I'm old, and I'm proud of it."

If the history happened somewhere else, like Korea, they cast statues of it.

Bronze soldiers patrol the streets at night—a little eerie for the unprepared.

I think it bodes ill for a business when the sign breaks down, and nobody fixes it.

The historic buildings will survive. How they're used may change, but that's happened here before. If the boot shops go, something new will come along.

Nashville will survive on the music. Everything else is window dressing.
