California Office Architecture, circa 1990 (1)

The office building where I now work is part of square-mile office park. The first buildings went up around 1990, and they look like it. Newer buildings have mimicked the style of the early buildings, so even the offices finished in 2001 look like they were designed a decade ago.

One sunny lunch-hour in early September, I walked around with my camera.

Considering the hour, there sure weren't many people out enjoying the day.

Maybe people feel out of place—or out of scale—around these buildings.

It's certainly pleasant enough, walking around the office district. The designers obviously tried hard to make the landscape inviting.

Always looming above the landscaping, though, are these weird structures.
