Putting the Cypress Trees to Sleep (2)

Less than a week after the arborist's visit, the work crew arrived. I showed them the trees, and without delay they started their chainsaws.

The crew's two cutters quickly lopped the branches they could reach from the ground.

The top of the taller cypress had grown up through the utility wires. The foreman put on his climbing spikes and went up.

This was the reason I hadn't attempted to drop the trees myself. I couldn't risk damaging the wires and interrupting utility service to the entire block.

That, plus the risk of electrocution...

As the lopped branches fell, other crew members began carrying loads of them out front to the truck.

Finally the foreman came to the top, which wove through the electric lines.

This was a good place to stop and think for a minute or two.
